Sports and News Links – September 22, 2010

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

There is not much to write about over the past few days, so let me be lazy and put together a sports and news links aggregate, since I haven’t done one in a while.

This is mostly sports-heavy, but there are some articles and information that didn’t get the national attention that bigger stories did.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk (via Fox News) reports that Ines Sainz, the female reporter who accused the New York Jets for harassment, ripped the Association for Women in Sports Media for “making a fuss about her situation.”  I agree with Florio on this:  her credibility is now down to zero. She’s seeking only publicity for herself.

Brian Murphy from the Idaho Statesmen learns that the WAC will hear proposals from Texas State and UT-San Antonio for admission to the league.  If the Bobcats and the Roadrunners are approved, they will replace Boise State, Fresno State, and Nevada.

Chase Goodbred of the Tuscaloosa News reports that Alabama coach Nick (the “Nick-tator) Saban (Satan) supports a NFLPA directive requiring sports agents to cooperate with NCAA investigations, but added that the problem of agents inducing players into accepting benefits that violate NCAA rules will need further solutions.

Great friend to the blog Jesse Gavin of “No It’s Iowa” was in Iowa City Tuesday when ESPN’s SportsNation rolled into town and he sits down with co-host Michelle Beadle to get her perspective on the popularity of the show.

Another great friend of the blog Paul Yeager (Public Paul and Media) pays tribute to Bob Foster, who recently stepped down as the host of Iowa St.’s football pre-game show.  Foster was also the voice of the Wartburg Knights and KWAY-AM/FM radio when Paul and I were on campus.

Finally, this news just in from Mike Florio:  The Chargers have decided not to trade WR Vincent Jackson, despite getting feelers from several teams, including the Vikings.  Maybe Archie Manning was right about the Lightning Bolts?
